Blazers Post Strong Showings at Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Track & Field team had some strong showings at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday.
Birthe Franck-Petersen started the day for the Blazers by posting an 8th place finish out of 64 entrants in the Shot Put with a mark of 12.86m (42' 2.25").
Freshman Destiny Roper also started the day hot for UAB as she won Heat 8 of the 60m Prelims. Roper advanced to the finals of the 60m where she came in 3rd, finishing .01 seconds behind the winner.
The Blazers' best event of the day came in the High Jump where the Green and Gold had two top-4 finishers. Olivia Beard posted her PR of 1.65m (5'5") and placed 3rd out of 35 entrants. Freshman Hope Foster came in 4th with a mark of 1.60m (5'3") in her college debut.
Regina Harris made the podium in the 1000m race for the Blazers. Harris finished with a time of 3:02 and placed 3rd of 24.
UAB returns to Birmingham Crossplex as it hosts the UAB Blazer Invite on Saturday, January 11. The meet starts at 9 a.m.
