Women’s Basketball Hosts Temple to Open AAC Play on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – After a successful non-conference slate, the UAB women's basketball team opens American Athletic Conference play by hosting Temple on Sunday, December 29 in Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
The Blazers enter Sunday's contest 9-3, while Temple is 6-5 on the season. The game marks the second time the two teams have faced each other, and the Owls lead the all-time series 1-0.
Temple is coming off a 63-89 loss at No. 24 California last Sunday, while UAB defeated Southern Illinois 75-57 last Sunday.
Journey Armstead earned double-digits for the fourth consecutive game and led the Blazers for the second consecutive game with a season-best 19 points at SIU. Maddie Walsh recorded 17 points, while Sara Bershers registered 13 points.
Jade Weathersby led in the rebound category with 12 rebounds. Rayne Tucker came away with eight points and six rebounds.
In the third quarter UAB shot 58 percent, and the Blazers defense held Southern Illinois to shooting 16 percent. For the game the Green and Gold shot 48 percent and held the Salukis to 34 percent. UAB scored 16 points off turnovers and 32 points in the paint.
Walsh leads UAB with 13.2 points per game while Bershers is following behind with 10.8 points. Armstead is averaging 10.3 points while Weathersby is recording 9.5 points per game. Tucker is averaging 8.3 points and Tracey Bershers is registering 7.2 points per game. Weathersby is leading in the rebound category with 9.6 per game.
Offensively, Temple is led by Tiarra East who averages 16.0 points and Tarriyonna Gary who records 9.0 points per game.
