BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball will host Alabama A&M on Wednesday night at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series over the Bulldogs 15-0 with a 13-0 advantage at home. The Blazers won last year's meeting by a score of 93-82 in Huntsville.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB led by as many as 27 points against Arkansas State, but the Blazers could not hang on, falling 98-89 to the Red Wolves in overtime. Yaxel Lendeborg had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four assists while Tyren Moore added 22 points of his own.
CRASH THE BOARDS
Last year UAB finished 61st nationally in rebounds per game, grabbing 38.0 per contest. The Blazers exceled on the offensive glass, grabbing 12.9 offensive boards per game, which was 27th in the nation. This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 26th in the country in rebounds per contest with 41.1. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 14.6 offensive boards per game, which is 15th in the nation. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 12 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
FAST PACED, HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
Tempo has often been a theme of Andy Kennedy's teams and the 2024-25 roster has continued that. The Blazers rank 62nd in the country in tempo while scoring 84.6 points per game, which is 29th nationally. UAB slowed its tempo a bit last season, ranking only 158th in the nation in the category after ranking 31st in the year prior.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 71.3% of the Blazers' scoring and 61.1% of their rebounding.
