BIRMINGHAM – Three different Blazers scored in double figures as UAB (6-3) defeated Alcorn State (2-8) by a score of 76-51 at Bartow Arena.

Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 16 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double. The double-double marked Weathersby's sixth of the season. Sara Bershers registered 13 points, while Journey Armstead added 10 points, five assist and four rebounds to the stat sheet.

In the first quarter both teams traded punched with four different lead changes and four tied scores. UAB finished the first leading 17-15 with the 17 points coming from five Blazers.

In the second quarter, UAB maintained its lead, but Alcorn State got within two (21-19) with 6:41 left with a timeout called. The Blazers began to extend their lead after the timeout and lead by 13 by a score of 36-23 heading into halftime. Ashton Elley led UAB in the second with six points while Bershers scored five of her 13 points.

Coming out of the half, the Blazers scored five straight points with two made free throws by Maddie Walsh and 3-pointer from Bershers. After the three from Bershers, UAB led by 18 which was the biggest of the quarter. Alcorn State went on a 9-0 run to get within nine. Heading into the final frame, the Blazers led by 10, 51-41.

The Green and Gold continued to extend the lead in the fourth and built their biggest lead at 28. UAB scored 40 points in the second half and shot 50 percent.

The Blazers scored 26 points in the paint and 24 points off turnovers. For the game, UAB shot 48 percent while holding ASU to 36 percent. The Green and Gold out-rebounded Alcorn State 42-23.

UAB returns to action in Bartow Arena on Wednesday, December 18 to host New Orleans. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
