BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball (5-2) team defeated Southern Miss (2-6), 87-66, Sunday afternoon inside Bartow Arena. With the win, head coach Randy Norton picked up his 200^th career win.

Maddie Walsh led four players in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting in the paint and 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Tracey Bershers went 4-of-5 in field goals and 3-of-4 from the long range to collect 12 points. Rayne Tucker also recorded 12 points and went 6-of-8 in the field. Sara Bershers registered 11 points on the afternoon.

Jade Weathersby tallied 11 rebounds to go along with eight points, while Journey Armstead matched her career-high 11 assists. Ashton Elley recorded a season-best nine points and Eleecia Carter came away with a season-high eight points.

The Blazers shot 56 percent for the game and held Southern Miss to 38 percent.

Both teams went back and forth scoring in the first quarter with three lead changes and three tied scores. UAB was down 7-11 with 4:31 left to play but went on a 12-2 run to grab the lead and would not let go of it the remainder of the game. The Blazers headed into the second frame leading 21-17.

The Green and Gold continued to extend their lead and scored 16 more points in the second quarter. UAB held a 37-33 advantage at halftime. Tracey Bershers had 10 points at the break and Walsh added eight.

The Blazers remained on fire out of the locker room, shooting 50 percent in the third. UAB went on a 7-0 run with 4:14 left and would ultimately score 18 points to have a 55-46 lead heading into the last frame.

UAB built its biggest lead in the fourth quarter at 23 points and scored 50 points in the second half for the final tally of 87-66.
