Volleyball Glides Past Memphis With Team Performance

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Volleyball team beat Memphis 3-1 in their last home game of the year on Wednesday night. Jorda Crook had a game high of 15 kills while Hannah Jones also had 15 kills for Memphis.
UAB used a hot start to take a huge lead in the first set winning 25-21. Abby Jones, Mia Reese, and Jorda Crook all had multiple kills in the first set to give UAB the set win. Asli Cellikol totaled 11 digs which is the second most for her all season.
UAB hit .211 with just 14 attacking errors compared to Memphis's 33. UAB also was dominant at the net with 11 blocks compared to seven from the Tigers. Memphis came back strong, winning set two 25-28.
Abby Jones also added 13 kills, which is her fourth straight game with ten or more kills. A couple of service aces as well as a 10-3 Blazer run led UAB to a set three win. The fourth set had 15 ties and four lead changes with three points being the highest separation between the two teams. An Asli Celikkol ace finished this one off in extra points 27-25.
UAB is back in action on Sunday as the team travels to Rice for a 1 pm first serve.
