UAB MBB Faces Southern Miss on Thursday Night

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball will host Southern Miss on Thursday night at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT as the Blazers look to bounce back from a season-opening loss to Vermont.
The matchup will be the Blazers' first Thirsty Thursday game with $5 Domestics available. Additionally, as a part of our Salute to Service Weekend, fans with a valid Military ID can purchase tickets for $5 at the window or buy them here. At the conclusion of the game there will also be a postgame autograph session.

Thursday's contest will stream live on ESPN+ with Jonathon Hoppe (pxp) and Mo Finley (analyst) on the call.
LISTEN

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series over Southern Miss by a margin of 37-20 including a 22-7 mark at home. The Golden Eagles won last year's meeting between the two programs by a score of 85-82.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers fell to Vermont on Monday night by a score of 67-62. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team with 22 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, but UAB was ice cold from beyond the arc, shooting 0-for-10 from three. After trailing by 14 at halftime, UAB was able to erase the deficit, but could not take the lead.
RETURNING TALENT
The UAB roster features large amount of returning production from last season's NCAA Tournament squad, including five players that started a game. The Blazers return 62.3% of its scoring from last season and 60.7% of its rebounding.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding.
CRASH THE BOARDS
Last year UAB finished 61st nationally in rebounds per game, grabbing 38.0 per contest. The Blazers exceled on the offensive glass, grabbing 12.9 offensive boards per game, which was 27th in the nation. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding, grabbing 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in nine games last season, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
