UAB Propels Past Alabama State, 76-43, in Emerald Coast Classic

NICEVILLE, Fla. – The UAB women's basketball (4-2) team propelled past Alabama State (2-4), 76-43, to close out the Emerald Coast Classic.
Rayne Tucker led the Blazers with season-high 23 points, while Maddie Walsh added 21 points. Jade Weathersby collected 10 rebounds, while Tucker had six and Walsh and Molly Moffitt had five apiece to total 26 of the team's 45 rebounds.
Walsh led the Green and Gold from behind the arc, going 6-of-10 and was also 7-of-11 in the paint. UAB shot 45 percent for the game and held Alabama State 30 percent.
In the first quarter both teams went back and forth but the Blazers pulled away and closed the first quarter leading 19-15 and would maintain the lead for remainder of the game.
In the second frame, the UAB continued to extend its lead and would be in front as many as 14. The Blazers would head into halftime leading 36-24. For the first half, Tucker scored 13 of her 23 points and Walsh 12 of her 21 points.
UAB began the third quarter on an 8-1 run and led 44-25 with 5:07 left in the quarter. Heading into the last 10 minutes, the Blazers were out in front by 21 (54-33).
The Green and Gold opened the final frame on a 9-0 run and would also earn their biggest lead of the game (35). UAB scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to earn its largest margin of victory of the season (33).
Walsh was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts during the tournament.
