Women’s Basketball Falls at Jacksonville State, 68-56

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The UAB women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night as Jacksonville State defeated the Blazers 68-56 at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Jade Weathersby recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Journey Armstead had 11 points while adding six rebounds and four assists.
The first quarter the two teams went back and forth scoring with seven different lead changes. With 1:07 left on the clock, Eleecia Carter made a 3-pointer to give UAB a 16-15 lead to head into the second frame.
In the second quarter, the score was tied 20-20 with 9:07 still left to play. Both teams traded punches scoring and the second frame also saw seven lead changes and three tied scores. Weathersby tied the score 32-32 after a free throw with 1:45 left until the half, but Gamecock Bre'Anna Rhodes was fouled and sent to the line. Rhodes missed her first free throw attempt but made her second to put Jax State up 33-32 going into halftime.
With the game tied 39-39, Jacksonville State grabbed the lead 41-39 and would hold control of it for the remainder of the third. Heading into the fourth quarter Jacksonville State led by one (50-49).
The Gamecocks went on a 10-1 run to open the final frame and led 60-51 with 6:27 left. JSU was able to maintain its lead for the remainder of the game to earn a 68-56 win.
UP NEXT
UAB heads to Florida for the Emerald Coast Classic. While there, the Blazers play Clemson on Nov. 25, followed by facing either Alabama or Alabama State on Nov. 26.
