UAB Falls to Clemson at Emerald Coast Classic

NICEVILLE, Fla. – UAB women's basketball (3-2) dropped its opening round matchup to Clemson (4-1) by a score of 90-52. Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with 10 points and five rebounds while Desiree Ware had eight points.
Weathersby's double digit points is the fifth consecutive game she has scored in double figures.
UAB struggled to knock down looks from beyond the arc, shooting only 4-for-17 from the three for the game.
Journey Armstead got the scoring started for the game with a layup, but Clemson would go on an 8-0 run forcing the Blazers to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Molly Moffitt and Eleecia Carter made 3-pointers to close in on the Tigers lead (10-8). Clemson went on its second run of the game (10-0) and extend the lead to 20-8. UAB went on a 7-0 to close out the first frame (22-16).
The Tigers began the second quarter on a 12-0 run and lead by 18 (34-16). UAB would only score nine points in the second and head into the half with Clemson leading 48-25.
In the third quarter, the Blazers scored 19 points and Weathersby scored eight of 10 points and Ware six of her eight points in the third. Heading into the final quarter Clemson was ahead 70-44.
The Tigers made a three to begin the final frame and Ware answered back with a layup. Clemson would then go on a 15-0 run had have their largest lead of the game 88-46 (42) with 3:53 left to play. UAB's defense would only allow the Tigers to score four points the rest of the quarter.
