UAB Football Falls at Memphis, 53-18

Memphis (9-2, 5-2 AAC) scored touchdowns on all five of its second half possessions to pull away from UAB (2-8, 1-5 AAC) for the victory.
The Tigers outgained the Blazers 526-324 and were led by senior quarterback Seth Henigan who was playing his final home game for the Tigers. Henigan threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns to help the Tigers finish 7-0 at home this year.
UAB quarterback Jalen Kitna was 27-of-42 for 253 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Sophomore receiver Amare Thomas had eight catches for 68 yards and in the process moved into sixth place on UAB's single season receptions list with 56. Kam Shanks finished with 45 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Corri Milliner had career highs in receptions (3) and yards (74).
Michael Moore (13 tackles) and Everett Roussaw Jr (10) led UAB's defense.
UAB fell behind 11-0 in the first quarter on a Mario Anderson Jr. rushing touchdown (2-point conversation) and a 41-yard field goal from Tristian Vandenberg. Memphis extended the lead to 18-0 following a 10-yard touchdown pass from Henigan to Anthony Landphere with 6:34 left in the half.
UAB gained a bit of momentum towards the end of the half with a 10-yard pass from Kitna to Shanks, and Terrell McDonald rushed in a 2-point conversion with 1:55 left to bring the score to 18-8 at the half.
UAB stalled on its opening drive of the second half, and the Tigers took advantage by taking their first possession 45 yards on six plays and capped it with a 19-yard touchdown from Henigan to Greg Desrosiers Jr. for a 25-8 lead.
Following a Jonah Delange field goal, Henigan and Landphere connected again on a 3rd-and-goal from the two on the first play of the fourth quarter which increased the lead to 21 (32-11).
The very next play was trickeration from the Blazers as wide receiver Iverson Hooks completed a 71-yard pass to Malachi Holt-Bennett which got the Blazers down to the 4-yard line, and three plays later McDonald scored his first career rushing touchdown, making the score 32-18 with 13:23 left in the game.
However, Memphis scored the final 21 points of the game with three consecutive touchdown drives which brought the final tally to 53-18.
The Blazers return to Protective Stadium for Senior Day next Saturday, Nov. 23 against Rice. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
