LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers moved to 2-1 on the year with an 82-72 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Yaxel Lendeborg led UAB with 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks while Christian Coleman posted his second career double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.
BIG START
Yaxel Lendeborg is only the third Blazer to open a season with three straight games with at least 20 points. He joins Carlos Williams and Andy Kennedy as the only players to have such a start at UAB. Williams scored at least 20 points in each of his first three games to open the 1995-96 season and Kennedy scored over 20 points in each of his first three games in 1988-89. No Blazer has scored over 20 points in four straight games to start a new season.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 79.3% of the Blazers' scoring and 79.2% of their rebounding.
PORTAL PICKUPS
The Blazers brought in three players from the transfer portal in the offseason. Bradley Ezewiro joins the roster after spending last season at Saint Louis where he averaged 12.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. Ezewiro began his career at LSU where he was a teammate of former Blazer Eric Gaines and transferred to Georgetown the following year. Greg Gordon transferred to UAB after spending one year at Iona. The 6'5" guard averaged 16.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over 24 games in his first season of Division I basketball as a JUCO transfer. Tyren Moore comes to UAB after two years at Georgia Southern. In his final season with the Eagles, Moore led the team with 17.0 points and 3.1 assists per game.
