Walsh Leads Blazers Past Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Graduate Maddie Walsh led UAB women's basketball to a 74-67 victory at Alabama A&M on Tuesday night.
Walsh scored 22 points while adding three rebounds and three assists. Jade Weathersby recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. Also in double figures was Journey Armstead who tallied 13 points and added five rebounds on the night. Sara Bershers came away with nine points and seven rebounds.
The Blazers shot 42 percent and out rebounded the Bulldogs 43-36. UAB's defense only allowed Alabama A&M to shoot 38 percent.
In the first quarter, the Blazers led for the majority of the quarter while Walsh led UAB with six points. With three seconds left in the first, the Bulldogs tied the score 20-20 to head into the second quarter.
In the second frame the Blazers grabbed the lead until Alabama A&M tied the game at 28-28 with 6:08 left on the clock. Rayne Tucker made a second chance layup to put UAB up by two, but the Bulldogs tied it once again (30-30). Alabama A&M took the lead the rest of the quarter and headed into halftime up 40-37.
Walsh got the scoring started coming out of the half, then Bershers hit a three to give the Blazers the lead. UAB would score 18 points in the third, with Weathersby leading the way to head into final frame up 55-51.
UAB would score 19 more points in the fourth quarter to earn a 74-67 win. The Green and Gold defense held the Bulldogs to only 27 points in the second half.
