Lendeborg Leads Blazers Past Southeastern Louisiana

BIRMINGHAM – Yaxel Lendeborg finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead UAB Men's Basketball (2-1) to an 82-72 win over Southeastern Louisiana (1-1).
The Blazers struggled to get going in the first half as Lendeborg attempted only two shots throughout the entire period. After the Blazers took a 21-16 lead, the Lions went on a 14-0 run to gain control.
The SLU lead extended to 10 points at 35-25 at the 5:43 mark, but the Blazers would not let it go any further. Lendeborg scored or assisted three of UAB's four baskets during its 12-1 run to close the half. Christian Coleman blocked a shot at the buzzer to prevent the Lions from scoring and UAB led 37-36 at the break.
In the second half, UAB woke up on the offensive end and scored on each of its first 11 possessions to stretch the lead to 17 points at 62-45. Lendeborg scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half while Tony Toney added eight of his 11 points.
The Blazers shot 63.3 percent after halftime, including a 4-for-8 mark from beyond the arc.
SLU cut the UAB lead down to nine points with just four minutes to go after a quick 7-0 run, but the Blazers were able to hold the Lions off to secure the 82-72 win.

- Yaxel Lendeborg has scored over 20 points in three-straight games for the second time in his career. He finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the win while shooting 9-for-10 from the field.
- Christian Coleman finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for his second career double-double.
- Tony Toney finished in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points. He was a spark for the Blazers in the second half, scoring eight after the break.
- Greg Gordon finished with 10 points for his first game in double figures as a Blazer.
- UAB shot .500 or better in each of its last two games after opening the season on Monday with a .382 mark.
- The Blazers have dished out a combined 39 assists over the last two games after having only three against Vermont.
