Sommer and Zimmer Lead UAB Women’s Soccer Past Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The UAB women's soccer team (7-4-4, 4-2-3 AAC) defeated Temple (2-16-0, 0-9-0 AAC) 2-1 with two late goals on Sunday afternoon.
In the first half, both teams had six shots and headed into halftime with each teams' defenses keeping the match scoreless.
In the second half UAB was called for a handball, allowing Temple to take a free kick. Phoebe Hollin found the back of the net in the 57th minute to put the Owls on the board first.
After Temple's goal, the Blazers had three chances to equalize the match, but the Owls keeper Tamsin Bynoe made the saves.
With five minutes left in the match, Jette Zimmer equalized the match in the 85th minute. It was Zimmer's fourth goal of the season. A minute later, Kendall Page played the ball up to Lola Sommer and she was able to find the back of the net to give UAB the lead at 2-1.
Sommer's goal was the first of her collegiate career and Page's second assist of the season.
The Blazers outshot the Owls 17-11, while Anika Toth had three saves on the afternoon.
Up next, UAB heads back home to close out the regular season and host North Texas on Thursday, October 31. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
