Women’s Soccer Hosts Tulsa on Thursday Night

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's soccer team will host Tulsa on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
The match marks the 12th time the two teams have faced each other. The Golden Hurricanes lead the series 7-2-2 with the last match taking place in Tulsa, Oklahoma last season where Tulsa earned a 4-2 win.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
UAB drew 2-2 at East Carolina on Sunday. Jette Zimmer scored both of the Blazers goals in the 7th minute and the 65th minute. Her first goal, assisted by Avery Berryman, put UAB on the board first at 1-0 while her second goal in the second half, which was assisted by Maiya Clark, put the Blazers back on top at 2-1. ECU scored a late goal in the 88th minute to even the match.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANES
Tulsa is coming off a 2-0 loss against Charlotte on Sunday. The Golden Hurricanes are 7-7-2 on the season and 3-4-0 in conference play. Tulsa is led by Blaine Schutte who has scored eight goals this season, with Leah Diaz recording seven goals and Hannah Chance with six. Aniya Facen, Ady Bechtel, Kaleigh Hart, Ashlyn Fernandez and Maggie SymSmith all have two goals. Jordan Frederick, Madison Williams Kaylyn Simmons and Piper Szafranski all have one goal apiece.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
Abbey Burns was recognized with an AAC award by earning Honorable Mention (Sept. 26) for her efforts against Samford. Burns has registered five goals so far this season. Sydney Bolinger has netted two goals and Abby Graeser has one goal this year.
Maia Sirota recorded her first collegiate goal at UTSA and has tallied two assists so far, with her first to Graeser in the season opener win against ETSU and her second assist to Bolinger at Samford.
Zimmer scored her first goal of the season at Rice (Sept. 26), followed by two at East Carolina (Oct. 20). She now has eight career goals and three goals this season. For her efforts at ECU, she earned AAC Honorable Mention this week.
Mia Leath, a freshman, scored her first goal to give UAB its 1-0 win against Florida Atlantic (Sept. 29). Leath's goal was assisted by Bolinger, which was her first assist of her career.
BRILLIANCE IN GOAL
Anika Toth earned AAC Goalkeeper of the Week (Sept. 23) for her performance against the ranked Tigers. So far this season, Toth has recorded six shutouts. Her first coming in UAB's home opener against ETSU (1-0), at home versus Ole Miss (1-0), at Southern Miss (1-0), against No. 15/11 Memphis (0-0), against Florida Atlantic (1-0) and against Charlotte (0-0). With the 1-0 win at Southern Miss, Toth recorded her 10th career shutout.
Also at Southern Miss, Toth took a free kick and assisted Bolinger in scoring the goal to put the Blazers up. It was the first assist of her career, and she earned AAC Honorable Mention for her efforts.
For her career, she has 13 shutouts, with her six this season being the most she has recorded in a single season.
