Blazers Travel to Hoover for Fall Exhibition Matchup with West Georgia

BIRMINGHAM - UAB Baseball is back in action on Friday, October 18, as the Blazers take on West Georgia at the Hoover Met Complex.
West Georgia is transitioning into its first season of Division I baseball in 2025, becoming members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Wolves ended the 2024 season 23-27 and finished eighth in Division II's Gulf South Conference.
The Blazers continue the fall season after their exhibition game vs. Mississippi State on October 12.
Wesley Helms led the team with two hits on Saturday. Todd Clay, Nick Hollifield, Ty Mauldin, and Tyler Harrington were among a slew of Blazers to collect hits in contribution to Saturday's efforts.
On the mound, the UAB pitching staff came as advertised, allowing just three earned runs across 14 innings. Newcomers Caleb Pittman and Cole Cheatham both burst on the scene with great performances Saturday. Pittman finished with four strikeouts in two innings of work. Cheatham added two strikeouts in two innings. Nathan Shelton, Chase Ingram, Brendan Conner, Ryan Olson, and Brooks House threw scoreless outings as well.
UAB and West Georgia are among several games being played as part of an umpire clinic at the Hoover Met Complex on Friday. The Blazers and Wolves are set to begin 12 innings of action at 4:30 p.m.
