BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team concludes a two-game road swing this Wednesday, Jan. 10, at East Carolina. Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
The Blazers suffered their first conference loss of the season last Sunday at Charlotte but still enter the contest at 11-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. East Carolina is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the AAC.
UAB started the game at Charlotte making its first nine 3-point attempts and ultimately made 11 triples in the first half. Despite making a season-best 14 threes for the game, UAB let a halftime lead slip away for the first time this season and is now 7-1 when leading at halftime.
Tracey Bershers made 6-of-9 from 3-point range at Charlotte and she leads the AAC in 3-point field goal percentage. Bershers is shooting 44.6 percent from deep, having made 37-of-83 on the season.
Maddie Walsh also continued her hot shooting from behind the arc and has made 19-of-37 (51.4%) over her last seven games from deep. During that span, Walsh is averaging 11 points per game and has reached double figures in six of those seven games.
Sophomore guard continues to lead the American Athletic Conference is rebounds per game and continues to average a double-double with 16.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Despite her lowest rebounding output of the season at Charlotte, Moore has had double-figure rebounds eight times this season and has had at least eight rebounds in 12 of 15 games.
The Blazers will have to contend with the league's second leading scorer in Danae McNeal, who averages 18.2 points per game. She also leads the AAC in steals per game at 4.0.
This is the first time UAB and ECU have met since 2014 and the two used to meet as members of Conference USA. The Pirates lead the all-times series 15-10.
