SERIES HISTORY
The series is tied at 8-8. Four of those meetings came within the last season, as the Blazers and Mean Green faced off twice in the regular season, once in the C-USA tournament and then in the NIT championship game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers picked up a win over No. 19 Memphis on Sunday evening in front of the largest crowd at Bartow Arena since 2016. Eric Gaines scored 20 points while shooting 7-for-10 from the field while Yaxel Lendeborg scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out four assists.
STOCK RISING
Yaxel Lendeborg is beginning to find his rhythm in his debut season at UAB. The junior forward had a breakout game on the offensive end against Furman where he filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, three assists and two steals, all while shooting 8-for-10 from the field. He earned AAC Player of the Week honors after putting up 24 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in a win over UNC Asheville and followed up that performance with 23 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks at UTSA. Lendeborg put up yet another impressive double-double with 23 points, 16 boards and four assists against No. 19 Memphis. The 6'9" forward is averaging 12.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game early in his career.
STEPPING UP
Highlight-reel plays marked Eric Gaines' first season in Birmingham with two SportsCenter Top Ten appearances and numerous high-flying dunks. After averaging 11.5 points and 4.3 assists per game, Gaines will play an even larger role as the only returning player to average double-digit points per game last season. The Almanac named Eric Gaines as its Preseason AAC Player of the Year heading into the season, citing his talent on both ends of the floor. Gaines has upped his scoring numbers while maintaining his defensive prowess early in the season for UAB, averaging 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
