UAB Football Travels to Face Georgia Southern on Saturday Night

BIRMINGHAM – A pair of 1-0 teams meet on Saturday night in Statesboro as UAB football travels to face Georgia Southern at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

The Blazers and Eagles are meeting for the second-consecutive season as this is the return trip of a home-and-home series. UAB won the first ever contest between the two schools last year in Birmingham by the score of 35-21.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Both teams are coming off dominant victories over FCS opponents as UAB defeated North Carolina A&T 35-6 and Georgia Southern blanked The Citadel 34-0. Each team allowed the fewest passing yards in the nation during the first week of action with GSU holding The Citadel to 14 passing yards and UAB holding NC A&T to 16.
The Blazers will look to snap their Week 2 woes with a win this Saturday. Since returning to action in 2017, UAB is just 1-5 in Week 2 games with its lone victory coming at Akron back in 2019.
It will be a tough test for the Blazers as Georgia Southern has the fourth highest home winning percentage in the FBS. The Eagles are 210-48 at Paulson Stadium (.814).
Jacob Zeno leads the Blazers into Statesboro after setting a school record in the season opener with 38 completions. Zeno was 38-of-41 (92.7%) for 291 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named to the AAC Honor Roll and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Honorable Mention list.
Zeno and the Blazers look poised to showcase a high-powered offense with multiple weapons, as was evident by Zeno finding 13 different receivers in Week 1. Five players shared a team-high four receptions, including running back Jermaine Brown Jr.
Brown Jr. saw limited action in his first live action since the end of spring ball and looked great with six carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 33 receiving yards. He now has sole possession of seventh place on UAB's career lists for rushing yards (2,322) and rushing touchdowns (20).
The Blazers had a stout defensive effort against North Carolina A&T. Along with just giving up 16 passing yards, UAB tallied six sacks and nine TFL in the contest. The six sacks were tied for the third most nationally in Week 1.
Jackson Bratton had a career-high 11 tackles and two sacks in last week's game and looks to remain near the top of the AAC in tackles. His 11 stops were the third most in the AAC in Week 1.
Stopping GSU running back Jalen White will be key for the Blazers. White rushed 19 times for 125 yards in last week's victory. Quarterback Brin Davis was 27-of-36 for 244 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against The Citadel.

Following UAB's game at Georgia Southern, the Blazers return home on Sept. 16 to host Louisiana at Protective Stadium.
