UAB Travels to Tampa to take on USF Bulls

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball returns to action Sept. 29-30 as they travel to Tampa to take on the USF Bulls for week two of AAC play. The 2-13 Blazers look to bounce back against the 8-6 Bulls.
The last meeting between these two squads dates back to 2019 after the Bulls moved from to the AAC from the Big East. The Blazers total nine wins to South Florida's 34 wins.

SCOUTING THE BULLS
The Blazers sit at an overall record of 9-34 against the Bulls dating back over five decades. The last meeting resulted in a four-set loss for the Blazers in Muncie, Ind. for the Ball State Invitational in 2019.
South Florida enters 2023 with an 8-6 record and sits 2-1 in the AAC. At second place in the AAC East, the Bulls sit at the top of the board in aces with 1.98 per set. Marta Cvitkovic leads the way in the stat category in service aces, with Buse Hazan being eighth. As a squad, the Bulls hold opponents to a hitting percentage of .190, with one of the lowest block averages in the conference with 1.48 per set.
Offensively, the Bulls have two players at or over 150 kills, with Hazan leading with 169 and Maria Clara Andrade trailing in second with 150. The Istanbul native had a season-high 21 kills and two double-double matches on the year for USF. On the defensive front, Caroline Dykes leads the squad in digs with 139. Dykes, a setter, finished with a career-high 17 digs at Memphis, following up with an over 50-dig match versus Tulane.
The Bulls force 107 errors against their opponents and hold their teams to 100 fewer assists. However, the Bulls tallied up more ball-handling errors with 13 to their opponents' eight. Though they lead in service aces, they also tallied up over 140 service errors. The Blazers out-dig and outattack the Bulls by 270 attacks, while both teams are neck-and-neck in kills, with UAB totalling 12.1 kills per set to USF's 12.2.
