UAB Football Drops 41-21 Contest to Louisiana

After a scoreless first quarter, the two teams entered an hour and 51-minute weather delay. Following the delay, Louisiana (2-1) outscored UAB 24-0 in the second quarter and ultimately built a 38-point lead which was too large for the Blazers (1-2) to overcome.

Jacob Zeno was 27-of-38 for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, while he added 98 rushing yards and a touchdown. However, he only netted 52 rushing yards after being sacked seven times.

Louisiana outgained UAB 513-386 for the game and had 305 total rushing yards. Keondre Swoopes had a game-high 10 tackles and in two games this season is averaging 9.5 tackles per game. Michael Moore had a career high nine tackles.

Following the scoreless first quarter, Louisiana had a fresh set of downs at UAB's 20-yard line when play resumed and two plays later Michael Fairbanks II forced a fumble which Fish McWilliams recovered to give the ball back to the Blazers.

However, Louisiana seized control of the game midway through the second quarter with 24 unanswered points. All three of the Ragin' Cajuns touchdowns were rushing scores, including an 80-yard rush from quarterback Zeon Chriss, who had two in the quarter.

Louisiana added 10 points in the third and led UAB 34-3 after three.

UL added another score in the fourth, but UAB scored the final 18 points of the game on a Zeno rush, a touchdown catch from Samario Rudolph and a rushing score from running back Lee Beebe.

The Blazers are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 23 at No. 1 Georgia. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
