KNOXVILLE – UAB Track & Field concluded competition at Tom Black Track for the Tennessee Relays, where the Blazers concluded competition early due to unfavorable weather conditions.
"I'm proud of how the athletes came out and competed in horrible weather. It was cold and wet all weekend. The ladies' effort was always there," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "The heptathletes competed well for their seven events. Kat hurled well and made the final today."
Starting out the day, the heptathletes started with long jump, where Laney Kronz placed third overall. Megan Hamilton Strong also placed third in javelin and second in the 800m giving her an overall score of 4559.
Following the conclusion of the Heptathlon, the Women's 100m hurdles preliminaries saw Kat Duren place second with a time of 13.85, qualifying her for the finals. She went on to place fourth overall in the finals.
In distance, Britney Johnson finished top ten in the women's 3K Steeplechase with a time of 11:45.74.
In jumps, Shauntia Landrum finished top eight in Triple Jump with an 11.62m
"In conditions where no one was putting up big performances, we had some great efforts this weekend. We'll get back home, regroup, and get back to training and get ready for our next competition."
