BIRMINGHAM – UAB Softball finished Saturday Afternoon with a series-clinching win over UTEP at Mary Bowers Field. The Blazers collected their 27th win and fifth consecutive conference win with their 4-2 victory.

UAB (4) UTEP (2)
The Blazers and Miners got straight to business flashing their offensive power, with UTEP delivering a single before Favre sent a two-run shot to center field. The Miners started with an early 2-0 lead to start the game and added a double to bring their hit count to three in the first.
UAB responded with a leadoff single from Lauren Brock to put the Blazers on base. Bella Wiggins was hit by a pitch and advanced on a passed ball to put the Green and Gold in position to score. Sierra Frazier then delivered a three-run shot to put the Blazers in front, 3-2. A three-up-three-down followed in the top of the second to bring UAB back to bat but did not capitalize.
The Miners added another base hit to the box score, but the Blazers halted the momentum with a web gem from Lindsey Smith to bring the Green and Gold to bat once again. UAB saw a base hit, this time from Wiggins to put the Blazers on base. After back-to-back fly balls into the gloves of UTEP, Wiggins advanced on a passed ball to put UAB in scoring position. Olivia Valbak then delivered an RBI double to send Wiggins across home plate.
With the Blazers leading four runs to UTEP's two, the defensive efforts continued in the fourth. The Miners retired Collins and entered Hewitt in the bottom of the fourth, but the Blazers still gathered a hit on the board from Alyssa Aguilar but did not score.
UAB continued their defensive efforts, with Caitlin Russell delivering back-to-back strikeouts in the fifth. But the Miners' Morales hit a double to right center to threaten a run. It proved to be unsuccessful as Hannah Miles went for a second web gem to conclude the top half of the inning. The Blazers had two hits, including a double from Sierra Frazier, but UAB left two on base after Ja'Nae Wray struck out looking.
The Green and Gold entered the bottom of the sixth with two more hits but were unable to capitalize. UTEP had one last chance to tie the score, hitting a single to land a Miner on base. UTEP's Richard reached on a fielder's choice to maintain a runner on base; a foul ball out to Frazier and a line drive into the glove of Russel concluded the game, giving the Blazers the 4-2 win.
