UAB Falls in Late Innings to UTSA on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (14-28, 5-15) fell to No. 25 UTSA (32-11, 15-4) by a score of 6-5 on Saturday, April 29. UTSA forced a rubber match after scoring late in the game to secure the win.
UTSA took a quick lead after lead-off batter, Leyton Barry, hit a home run and then an RBI single which put the Roadrunners up 2-0 after the first. The Blazers bounced back in the second after they plated three runs off three back-to-back hits including a double, a single and an RBI bunt single. UAB scored a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Blazers kept the lead until UTSA scored four runs in the top of the ninth. Down by one, UAB was unable to plate a run during its last at bat.
Blayze Berry started on the mound for UAB and threw four complete innings followed by Tyler O'Clair who spent a season high of four innings on the bump. Berry allowed two runs – earned – on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. O'Clair allowed only one run – earned – on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. John Luke Marlin (0-3) was given the loss after giving up three runs on two hits and was followed by Christian Clack who threw a shutout to collect the final two outs for the Blazers.
Darryl Buggs collected a season-high game on both sides of the ball with going 4-for-4 at the plate and eight putouts in center field. Buggs was a triple shy from hitting the cycle after he hit two singles, a double and a home run – his first of the season – and collected three RBI. Logan Braunschweig (2-for-5), Christian Hall (2-for-5) and Brayton Brown (2-for-5) also collected a multi-hit game. Braunschweig collected two singles, Hall hit a single and a double and Brown collected two doubles to bring his total to 12 on the year.
