Blazers Drop Series to No. 25 UTSA on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (14-29, 5-16) dropped the series finale to No. 25 UTSA (33-11, 16-4) by a score of 9-4 on Sunday, April 30.
Both teams began the game with putting runs on the board in the first – UAB plated two runs to take an early lead. After two scoreless innings, UTSA regained the lead in the fourth before Gavin Lewis Jr. hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to bring the game to a tie. The Roadrunners busted the game open after bringing home four runs in the fifth and would hold on to the lead the rest of the game. UAB threatened in the late innings but fell shy of scoring any runs before the final out.
Carson Myers (1-5) stepped on the mound first for the Blazers and received the loss after he allowed seven runs – earned – on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts during four and one third innings. Leo Harris relieved Myers and spent three and one third innings on the mound while he gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Thomas Ballard, Carson Knight – who allowed one run during his four batters faced – and Jonah Smith followed Harris to close out the eighth and ninth innings.
Three Blazers collected a multi-hit game including Tyler Waugh (2-for-4), Brayton Brown (2-for-5) and Gavin Lewis Jr. (2-for-3). Waugh collected a single and a double and scored one of UAB's runs while Brown collected two singles including a two-run single to right field. Lewis Jr. sent a ball over left field to collect his second home run of the year and picked up 2 RBI off a double.

UAB will play Birmingham-Southern in the second annual Rickwood College Classic at Rickwood Field on Tuesday, May 2. First pitch is set for 1 P.M. and there will be no broadcast.
