UAB Baseball Downs No. 25 UTSA in Series Opener

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Blazers (14-27, 5-14) defeated No. 25 UTSA (31-11, 14-4) by a score of 4-2 to take game one of the series on Friday, April 28 at Young Memorial Field.
Brooks Walton (3-4) earned the win after he threw a complete game and allowed only two runs on four hits. Walton retired UTSA in order through the first four innings and two more times after in the seventh and eighth innings. This is Walton's fourth game to give up four hits and two runs on the year.
The Blazers' offense plated four runs in the fourth inning off a double from Brayton Brown – his 10th – a couple of singles and a fielder's choice to allow Walton to pitch with security throughout the game. David Harris (2-for-4) and Logan Braunschweig (2-for-5) collected a multi-hit game. Harris scored one of UAB's runs while Braunschweig collected two RBI from a single to right field. Ben Abernathy and Tyler Waugh collected one RBI each.

UAB and UTSA square up for game two on Saturday, April 29 at Young Memorial Field. First pitch that was originally slated for 2 P.M. was moved up to a Noon start time due to expected weather later in the day. The game will be broadcast on CUSA.tv and available on the Varsity Network App.
