Track & Field Concludes Day Two of the Spring Invite

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field concluded the UAB Spring Invite building off what they accomplished the day before. The Blazers added more event wins, personal bests, and season bests to finish first overall in the meet with 172 points total.
"We loved competing at home in front of lots of family and friends. The girls took advantage and competed very well," said head coach Kurt Thomas."Tia had a big weekend with two big 1st and 2nd place finishes. Eriyanna ran great for a huge PR in the 400m. Alayah sprinted great. Lauren Charlton raced well in the 5k. So many girls got great competitions in their events. We're proud of the team. We'll take this and continue to add to it in training and get ready for the next meet."
Starting the meet, the Blazers had a strong outing in the high jump, with Nia Hill placing second in the event with a jump of 1.63m. The Blazers then secured their first event win of the evening, with Shauntia Landrum landing at the top of the pack in the triple jump with a season-best performance of 12.16m.
UAB then continued their high-caliber performances in running events, starting with the 4x100m Relay. The Blazers 'A' team (Makiyah Sills, Taylor Washington, Kat Duren, Alayah Dozier) finished first with a time of 47.32. The 'C' team (Laney Kronz, Megan Hamilton Strong, Averie Foster, Shauntia Landrum) also finished in the top five.
In the 100m hurdles, Kat Duren continued her campaign with a facility record of 13.90, finishing second overall. Sills finished out the top three in the hurdles with a 14.13.
The Blazers collected two more top-three finishes in sprints, with a personal best in Freshman Eriyanna Reed, who placed second in the 400 with a time of 55.17. In the 100, Alayah Dozier placed second overall, while Duren finished fifth for the Green and Gold. Dozier also placed second in the 200m
The 800 proved to have more top-five performances, this time with Regina Harris, Alicia Abalos Cervera, and Sangie Lincoln-Velez finishing second, third, and fourth overall.
UAB finished with four event wins and double-digit personal bests throughout the weekend. They'd conclude the day with 13 top-three finishes.
