BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Baseball team (3-7) fell to Notre Dame (5-3) on Saturday, March 4 at Young Memorial Field.
After going scoreless through three innings, Notre Dame got on the board first after batters reached on back-to-back singles followed by a sacrifice bunt which brought a run. The Blazers answered back in the bottom of the fifth after a three-run home run which put UAB in the lead.
Starter Carson Myers (0-1) threw three shutout innings during his 5.2 innings on the mound but collected the loss after allowing five earned runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Third baseman, Ben Abernathy, moved to the mound after Myers and threw 3.1 innings allowing two runs – earned – on three hits with three strikeouts.
Offensively, both teams collected six hits on the day, but UAB fell short in runs. Two Blazers, Christian Hall (2-for-3) and Tyler Waugh (2-for-4), recorded multi-hit games. Hall went back-to-back innings with a single and scored one off UAB's runs while Waugh collected a single and a double. The Blazers earned all three off their runs in the fifth inning from a Brayton Brown three-run homer to left center field which scored John Marc Mullins who walked and Hall who singled. The home run was Brown's first and the team's second of the season.
