Track & Field Hosts the 2023 UAB Spring Invite

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field returns to the Magic City hosting the 2023 Blazer Spring Invite at the UAB Track Complex. The Green and Gold finished the previous weekend with high marks, including an event win for Shauntia Landrum.
The 2023 Blazer Spring Invite hosts 16 schools, including Miles, Alabama State, Jacksonville State and more. The Spring Invite starts Friday, March 31 at noon and concludes competition on Saturday, April 1.
FRIDAY EVENTS
Starting off Friday, the Blazers feature eleven ladies in the Green and Gold competing in field events, including Tia Espinoza, who threw a PR in discus with a throw of 37.48m. In jumps, Shauntia Landrum, Laney Kronz, Megan Hamilton-Strong and Averie Foster represent the Blazers in long jump.
Distance makes up most of Friday's running event schedule, starting with the Women's 1500m. Lauren Charlton, Laura Gonzalez and Sangie Lincoln-Velez represent the Blazers. Seven more runners for UAB are featured on the heat sheet, competing in the 3K Steeplechase and 5K.
SATURDAY EVENTS
For Saturday, the Blazers begin again with field events, starting with discus and finishing with high jump. In Pole Vault, the sole UAB athlete competing in the event would be Trinity Fellows, who sits at a personal record of 3.60m for indoor and 3.55m for outdoor.
On the track, sprints and relays occupy the day, with the 4x100m Relay starting the day. The 100m Hurdles follow, featuring nine Blazers competing in the event, including Synai Jones, who set a PR of 14.80 at the Bulldog Relays.
In the 400, Eriyanna Reed is the frontrunner for the Blazers with a PR time of 57.17 at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. For the Women's 800, three ladies in the Green and Gold are set to compete, with Regina Harris leading off for the Blazers. Harris helped UAB to a fifth place finish in the 4x800, with a time of 9:31.75.
The Blazers compete in seven running events and all field events on Saturday.
SENIOR RECOGNITION
On Saturday, UAB Track & Field and Cross Country will recognize their senior athletes and the contributions to UAB Athletics. The ceremony begins at 11:30 am on the infield of the UAB Track and Field Complex.
