Blazers to Host UAB Beach Classic This Friday and Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team is set to host its first of two tournaments in Birmingham with the UAB Beach Classic this Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1 at UAB's on-campus courts.
The Blazers welcome Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Mercer and ULM to Birmingham, and will play at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Below is the full schedule:
Friday, March 31
8 a.m. – Jacksonville State vs. ULM
10 a.m. – Jacksonville State vs. Austin Peay
12 p.m. – Mercer vs. ULM
2 p.m. – UAB vs. Austin Peay
4 p.m. – UAB vs. Mercer
Saturday, April 1
8 a.m. – ULM vs. Austin Peay
10 a.m. – Jacksonville State vs. Mercer
12 p.m. – UAB vs. ULM
2 p.m. – Austin Peay vs. Mercer
4 p.m. – UAB vs. Jacksonville State
(Blazer Beach is located at the corner of 6th Ave. South and 11th Street, adjacent from Bartow Arena).
The Blazers enter the tournament at 9-10 overall and are coming off a highly competitive tournament at the March To May in Gulf Shores where they finished 2-4 overall with a win over No. 19 Tulane. Their four losses came to teams that were all ranked inside the top 20.
Brooke Pertuit and Jasmine Haas lead the way for the Blazers as they share a team best 11-8 overall record and are 9-6 together as a pair. Fifth year senior Emma Andraka enters this weekend needing three victories to become UAB's career leader in all-time wins. She enters the tournament with 50 career wins.
UAB has fared well historically against this weekend's field with a winning record against every team. The Blazers are 5-0 against both Austin Peay and Jacksonville State, 13-9 against Mercer and 11-4 vs. ULM.
ULM enters the contest at 19-1 overall and plays their toughest tournament of the season this weekend. They are followed by Austin Peay at 11-5, Mercer at 3-17 and Jacksonville State at 0-9-3.
