UAB Baseball to Host Jacksonville State at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (7-16, 2-4 C-USA) will welcome the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (13-11, 6-0 ASUN) to Young Memorial Field for a mid-week matchup on Tuesday, March 28. First pitch is set for 4 P.M. and will be broadcasted on CUSA.tv.

Both the Blazers and Gamecocks are 1-4 in mid-week games which both happened on March 14. UAB's win came after defeating Samford 9-5 while Jacksonville State upset third-ranked Ole Miss by a score of 10-6. This past weekend, both teams put up an extensive number of runs through three games – UAB 25 and JSU 33.
UAB BLAZERS
The Blazers return home after taking the series against FIU. UAB took game one after scoring 15 runs on 19 hits before taking Sunday's rubber match by a score of 5-2. The bats started to heat up down in the Miami sun. Out of the 10 Blazers that recorded at bats this past weekend, nine recorded multi-hit games including Logan Braunschweig and Brayton Brown who collected two games with multiple hits.
Leading UAB in batting averages is Braunschweig (.357), Blayze Berry (.346) and Tyler Waugh (.293). Four Blazers have a .400 or better on-base percentage including Braunschweig (.463), Waugh (.406), Christian Hall (.422) and John Marc Mullins (.419) while multiple sit at a .300 plus slugging percentage with Braunschweig leading the team at (.429). Shelton has thrown seven and a third of an inning and has allowed four runs – two earned – on six hits with seven strikeouts.
JACKSONVILLE STATE GAMECOCKS
The Gamecocks have started the 2023 season off hot with collecting wins over Georgia and Ole Miss and winning four of their six series which include back-to-back sweeps of Queens and Bellarmine. Jacksonville State sits undefeated in the ASUN Conference.
Offensively, Bear Madliak (.408), Will Fincher (.387) and Javon Hernandez (.381) lead the Gamecocks in batting average. Fincher has the most doubles (8) while Hernandez has the most hits (37) and second highest runs (24). T.J. Reeves sits with the most RBIs (29) for Jacksonville State.
Six Gamecocks have a .400 or better on-base percentage while five have a .500 plus slugging percentage.
Jacksonville State will start right-hander Trey Fortner (0-3). Fortner has thrown 18.1 innings to earn a 7.36 ERA and has allowed 17 runs – 15 earned – on 29 hits with 13 strikeouts.
