BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball's Brayton Brown has been named Conference USA Hitter of the Week after having a career-high game during the Blazers dominate 15-5 win over FIU on Friday, March 24.
Entering the weekend, Brown was coming off a single hit game after coming in during the fifth inning against Alabama on Tues., March 21. In game one against the Panthers, UAB's offense came alive to put up 15 runs on 19 hits. Of those 15 runs, Brown contributed to batting in eight of them for a career-high in RBIs while also collecting four hits – two singles and two home runs including a three-run homer.
Brown's powerful offense continued the rest of the series to end the week batting a smooth .500 over four games with eight hits, two runs, nine RBIs, two home runs and only two strikeouts.
Brown has played in all 23 games and started in 22 as either the left fielder or designated hitter. During UAB's series win over FIU, Brown spent time playing in both positions including on Friday when he started in left field and batted in the sixth spot on the lineup.
The Blazers start a five-game home stand on Tues., March 28 when the Jacksonville State Gamecocks come to Young Memorial Field for a non-conference mid-week matchup. First pitch is set for 4 P.M. on CUSA.tv.
