Frazier Reigns as All-Time RBI Leader in Blazers' 3-1 Win Over FIU
3/25/2023 6:11:00 PM | Softball
BIRMINGHAM – UAB Softball continued their extraordinary performances entering the second day of the FIU Series at Mary Bowers Field, with senior Sierra Frazier taking the spot of All-Time Leader in RBIs with a 3RBI homer.
Frazier sits at 22 RBIs in the 2023 season and 154 over her career. Her three RBIs led the Blazers to a 3-1 win over the Panthers and allowed the Green and Gold to clinch the weekend series.
"The new career RBI leader for the program gave us a 3-0 lead in the first inning and we were able to make that stand up," said head coach AJ Daugherty. "Valbak gave us a solid start and Cespedes closed the door. Another good win today."
The Blazers improve to 15-16 overall and 4-4 in C-USA play.

The Blazers entered the game on a defensive high note, with a quick top half of the first to bring the game to the bottom of the inning. After a walk for Lauren Brock and a single for Bella Wiggins, the bases were occupied. Olivia Valbak delivered a sacrifice bunt to push the runners closer to home before Sierra Frazier stepped to bat.
After a foul ball, the senior homered to left field to send Wiggins, Brock and herself across home plate. With that, Frazier solidified herself as the All-Time RBI Leader and put the Blazers up early. Valbak allowed two Panthers to walk in the second, but nothing came of it, as they were stranded and would not score.
Entering the top of the third after a walk and back to back singles, the Panthers were looking to score. FIU's Ross then advanced to second, and Izard advanced to third, giving Navarro a chance to steal home but was unsuccessful as Frazier caught her to prevent the run. The Panthers then found another opportunity in Isabella Perez, who singled to right field to give Izard the scoring run, putting the score at 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Blazers tallied two hits with a single from Makenzie Droddy and a single from Hannah Miles. Brock walked, loading the bases, giving Wiggins an opportunity to score if she sent a hit, but she grounded out to first.
Sarah Cespedes entered at pitcher in the fifth to strike out a batter swinging. Two more hits came from the bottom of the fifth, with two Blazers on base, but nothing would come of it for UAB. In the final inning, three quick outs concluded the game in favor of the Green and Gold to finish with a 3-1 win.
