BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field enter the month of March with its first outdoor meet in the Plains, where they compete in the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn.
"There's always an excitement and positive vibes for outdoor," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "We will debut events not included in indoor, like the 4x100m relay, javelin, hammer throw, steeplechase, and others." said head coach Kurt Thomas.
The Blazers finished the indoor season with 25 personal records and a second-place finish from Kat Duren in the 60m hurdles. In addition to her top-three finish, Duren snagged a second-team all-conference nod to add to her belt.
UAB also finished with a school-record-breaking performance for Birthe Franck-Petersen, who threw a 13.97m in shot put in the Vanderbilt meet. She enters the outdoor season with a school record in hammer throw with a distance of 13.66m.
"We finished the indoor season on a positive note. Everyone competed well and ended the season with PRs and season bests, so we want to build on that." said Thomas.
The 2023 Tiger Track Classic includes 18 squads and 13 unattached athletes competing throughout the weekend.
"The team has been training hard the past few weeks, and we'll use this Auburn meet to see where we are and get those competition juices flowing again," said Thomas. " Auburn always hosts good meets, so we're excited to go down there and compete."
