AUBURN – UAB Track & Field concluded their run at the 2023 Tiger Track Classic with high marks. The Blazers finished with 15 top-ten finishes throughout the weekend along with notable performances in field events on day two.
"We had a solid opening outdoor meet," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "There was rustiness in several events that are different from indoor, but the ladies executed pretty well and competed hard."The Green and Gold opened up day two with triple jump, where Shauntia Landrum had an impressive opening performance with a jump of 11.88m. Her jump landed her second overall in standings.
"We're proud of several of the top performances from this weekend. Shauntia triple-jumped well, and Laney hurdled well. Trinity had a solid pole vault competition. Several of the girls made finals and got good competition reps in."
Turning to the track, freshman Eriyanna Reed finished sixth in the 400m, followed by the 4x400m relay squad finishing sixth overall. In distance events, Gracie Sears, Ava Brooks, Britney Johnson, Anna Behmer, and Lauren Robinson finished seventh to eleventh in the 3K. In hurdles, Laney Kronz finished in the top three in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.57, a personal record.
Overall, the team finished on a buildable foundation preparing for future meets for the outdoor season. "We'll take what we've learned from this meet and get back to training and keep getting better for next week." said Thomas.
