NASHVILLE – UAB Softball finished victorious with a 2-1 win over Tennessee State on Wednesday afternoon. The win increased the current streak to two games after the Blazers defeated FAU on Sunday.
"Good to get a win to start our trip. Great job in the circle from Cespedes and Russell," said head coach AJ Daugherty on the team's performance to start our the Tennessee run. "Double-digit hits are always good to see, and we have to turn that many hits into more than two runs for our pitchers."
The Blazers improve to a record of 12-13 as they ease into conference play with a series against Middle Tennessee State starting Friday.

The Blazers and Tigers both showed defensive efforts, with Lauren Brock put out early. Following Brock, Bella Wiggins sent a double to left center to put the Green and Gold on base. Olivia Valbak would also deliver a base hit to give Bella Wiggins the opportunity to score, but nothing would come of it after a double play left two runners on base to end the first.
After the end of the first and entering the second, Lindsey Smith doubled to center field to threaten a run. Following Smith, designated hitter Allyson Smith singled up the middle to give Lindsey Smith the run to put the Blazers on board. The Blazers tallied one more hit with Alyssa Aguilar sending a single through the left but would not score again.
The Blazers and Tigers went scoreless before Tennessee State struck with a single up the middle from Fointno. The Tigers' Simpson then reached on a fielder's choice, and Foitno advanced on an error to threaten a run. TSU executed a run with an RBI single to put Fointno across home plate.
In the top of the fifth, UAB tallied up two early outs after a single from Lauren Brock. Lilly Crowe found herself on base after an error from the centerfielder to give Brock the go ahead run to put the Blazers on top once again. Entering the bottom of the fifth, pitcher Sarah Cespedes subbed out, and Caitlin Russell entered the circle.
In the final inning, the Green and Gold were put out quickly, with Crowe delivering a flyball out, Droddy striking out swinging and an out from Lindsey Smith. The Blazers responded back with three up and three down to end the seventh with the Blazers securing a 2-1 win over the Tigers.
