UAB Blazers Host Samford Bulldogs at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball (4-11) will welcome in-state neighbors Samford (6-9) to Young Memorial Field on Tues., March 14. First pitch for the mid-week game is set for 4 P.M. on Conference USA TV.

"I'm glad to be back at Young Memorial Field after a weekend on the road. We have not had a full week at home yet, so it will be nice to be here for four straight games," said head coach Casey Dunn.

This will be the second meeting between UAB and Samford since Coach Dunn has become head coach at UAB after serving 17 seasons at the helm for Samford and the first meeting at home since 2021.

For the Blazers, John Marc Mullins and Christian Hall are leading the pack offensively in multiple categories. Mullins leads the team in batting average (.250), doubles (2) and triples (2) while Hall leads in most RBIs (13) and second to Mullins in batting average (.245).

On the other side, Garrett Howe (.327) and Joseph Salvo (.333) are the top two leading batting averages for Samford's offense. Both teams have similar fielding percentages – UAB (.979), Samford (.968).

UAB AND SAMFORD HISTORY

UAB and Samford are no strangers to one another whether that is through coaching ties or playing each other almost for 40 years. Since 2001, Samford leads the overall record 25-16, but UAB claimed the last meeting on March 29,2022 after defeating the Bulldogs 8-4.
