UAB Baseball Drops Games to Michigan and KSU

Kennesaw, Ga. – UAB Baseball (4-11) dropped both games on the final day of the Mike Sansing Classic on Sat., March 11. UAB fell 3-2 to Michigan (6-9) in game one and to Kennesaw State (7-6) in game two 4-3.
UAB VS. MICHIGAN
The game stood scoreless through five innings before both teams scored in the sixth. UAB scored its two runs from a Ben Abernathy triple to center field which scored Gavin Lewis Jr. who reached on a single to left field and from Brayton Brown who followed up with a double to left center which brought in Abernathy. Three other Blazers record hits in game one including Brayton Brown, Blayze Berry and Darryl Buggs.
Carson Myers started on the mound for UAB and threw a season high of six innings and allowed one run – earned – on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Two Blazers followed including JC Sewell and Brooks Walton (1-1) who received the loss after he allowed two runs on one hit.
UAB AT KSU
In game two, UAB scored a run early in the first followed by KSU tying the game in the bottom of the inning before the Blazers answered back in the top second to regain the lead 3-1. The game became tied for the second time in the bottom third after the Owls scored two runs and it stayed tied for two and a half innings.
On the mound, Ben Abernathy made his first start for UAB, but Ty Hutto (0-1) was given the loss after allowing the leading run to score on one hit. Abernathy allowed three runs on five hits during his two and a third innings. Besides Hutto, six Blazers followed Abernathy including JC Sewell, Carson Knight, John Luke Marlin, Christian Clack, Leo Harris and Braxton Shelton. Sewell, Marlin and Clack threw for a combined 1.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits and three strikeouts. Knight threw one and two thirds of an inning and collected a season high in strikeouts (3) while throwing a shutout. Harris and Shelton rounded out the game and also threw a single inning shutout.
Offensively for UAB, Logan Braunschweig (3-for-5) and David Harris (2-for-3) collected a multi-hit game. Braunschweig tied his career high hits in a game (3) which all were singles. Harris also collected singles – one in the third and one in the sixth. Five other Blazers record a hit including Tyler Waugh, Brayton Brown, Christian Hall, Henry Hunter and Gavin Lewis Jr. John Marc Mullins, Hunter and Lewis Jr. all collected one of UAB's runs.
