BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field returns from a quick break last week as they gear up for the 2023 Vanderbilt Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. Friday, Feb. 10. The Blazers are one of 48 teams represented at the meet hosted by the Commodores. The meet begins in the morning at the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center.
The Green and Gold came off an impressive performance at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite in Louisville, where the Blazers tallied 13 personal bests throughout the weekend. Performances include a top ten all-time pentathlon performance from Megan Hamilton-Strong and a pair of PRs in the 3K from underclassmen Kyra Hayes and Ava Brooks.
"The team has done a good job the past few meets. We want to have the team compete in the moment at a bigger competition like this so we can be prepared for the conference championships next weekend," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "Competing hard, executing technique and stepping up in these situations is critical."
The Blazers will use this as their final regular season meet before the C-USA 2023 Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by UAB. The expectations are to build off the performances from the BSC Icebreaker, to the upcoming Music City Challenge.
"We always expect the team to compete at their best. We want to see great effort, focus and compete hard. When they do those things, usually good things happen." said Thomas.
Meet information, live results and streaming links for the Music City Challenge will be provided as it becomes available.

"We will have almost a full team here this weekend. A few athletes are staying home to train and prepare for conference. Our distance crew had a good meet at Louisville and hope to continue that in Nashville. The sprinters and hurdlers feel confident going into this weekend and hope to climb the conference standings."
