UAB Wraps Up Florida Roadtrip at FIU

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team continues its Florida roadtrip on Saturday when it faces FIU. Tipoff time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) / 2 p.m. (ET).

UAB LATELY
UAB (10-11, 2-10 C-USA) has dropped three straight and is coming off an 80-75 setback to Florida Atlantic on Feb. 2. The Blazers are 3-6 on the road this season.

FIU LATELY
FIU (11-10, 6-6 C-USA) is coming off a 50-44 victory over Charlotte on Feb. 2. The Owls are 9-5 at Ocean Bank Convocation Center this season.

UAB AND FIU HISTORY
The series began in 1981 in Coral Gables, Fla. which pitted the Blazers vs. the Sunblazers, FIU's nickname until 1987. UAB won 110-38 - the 72 point margin of victory is still the largest in UAB program history. The teams played a pair of neutral site games in 1992, which was in the consolidation bracket of the NWIT and in 1994 along with a one-off in 2001 before the Panthers joined Conference USA in 2014. Overall, UAB leads the series 12-3, 9-2 in C-USA play.

LAST TIME AGAINST FIU
Denim DeShields scored a career-high 36 points, but a late comeback fell short as UAB (9-5, 1-4 C-USA) suffered its first home loss of the season 91-89 to FIU on Jan. 7.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and Florida Atlantic have nine common opponents this season.

SUNSHINE DAYS
UAB is 73-41 against teams from Florida.

SCHEDULE NOTE
The Feb. 18 game vs. UTSA will now have a 1 p.m. tipoff time.

UAB TO THE AAC
American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC and compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The move will be official on July 1, 2023.
