UAB Baseball Takes Game One Versus Murray State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (2-3) secured its second win of the season after defeating Murray State (1-4), 4-2, on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Hoover Met Stadium.
The Blazers rallied early and collected all four runs in the first inning which included back-to-back doubles from Christian Hall and Brayton Brown.
Blayze Berry (1-0) started and earned the win for UAB after his five innings on the mound. Berry allowed one run – earned – on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Three Blazers followed Berry including Christian Clack, Jonah Smith and Ben Abernathy. Clack allowed one earned run on two hits before Smith came on in the sixth inning. During his two innings on the mound, Smith threw a shutout. Abernathy, who started at third base, finished the game pitching and allowed no runs on two hits with striking out two batters.
Offensively for the Blazers, four different players recorded hits including Logan Braunschweig (1-for-4), Darryl Buggs (1-for-3), Hall (1-for-4) and Brown (1-for-3). Brown (1), Buggs (1) and Hall (2) all collected RBIs. John Marc Mullins and Abernathy both scored during the first inning rally after Mullins reached base from a hit by pitch and Abernathy walked before Hall doubled to bring them in.
