Women’s Basketball Opens AAC Play at Florida Atlantic on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – After a 9-3 non-conference record, the UAB women's basketball team opens American Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Florida Atlantic. Tip is set for 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
The Blazers and Owls (5-6) are meeting for the 17th time in program history with UAB leading the series 12-4. This is the first time these two teams are meeting as members of the American.
Sophomore guard Mia Moore concluded the non-conference by posting seven double-doubles in 12 games. She is coming off back-to-back double-double performances at the Hawk Classic in Philadelphia.
At 5-foot-6, Moore is averaging a double-double with 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. She is leading the AAC in rebounding and has pulled down double figure rebounds in six of her last seven games.
The Blazers continue to be one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country and rank third nationally at the line. UAB has made 193-of-233 from the line (82.8) and every UAB player who has taken at least 10 free throws is shooting over 72 percent. Tracey Bershers is leading the team with a 94.4 percentage (17-of-18).
Following FAU, the Blazers return to Bartow Arena to host its first conference game of the season against Memphis on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.
