SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series 2-0. The Blazers last met the Bulldogs in the opening game of the 2021-22 season when UAB defeated UNC Asheville, 102-77.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers picked up a key win over a talented Drake squad last Friday. UAB held on in overtime to secure a 79-78 win as five different players finished in double figures. Javian Davis led the Blazers in scoring with 15 points while Yaxel Lendeborg added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
MAKING AN IMPACT
Daniel Ortiz has begun to find his rhythm on the UAB roster. The North Alabama transfer scored only nine points over the first five games but has since averaged 11.8 points over the last seven games while shooting 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. Ortiz hit a clutch go-ahead three with four seconds to go in regulation in the Blazers' win over Drake. Ortiz also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his collegiate career in UAB's win over Montevallo.
GETTING COMFORTABLE
Yaxel Lendeborg has become a force in his debut season at UAB. The junior forward had a breakout game on the offensive end against Furman where he filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, three assists and two steals, all while shooting 8-for-10 from the field. Earlier in the week against Middle Tennessee, Lendeborg scored nine points while grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking three shots. So far this season, he has blocked a shot in every game. The 6'9" forward is averaging 9.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game early in his career.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Throughout its history, the UAB men's basketball program has seen incredible success in Birmingham, holding a 438-109 record in Bartow Arena since the Blazers' on-campus home opened back in 1988. That success has continued with Andy Kennedy returning to his alma mater, as the third year UAB head coach holds a 52-9 record at home (Bartow and Legacy Arena) since taking over the program.
