UAB Returns to Bartow for Tuesday Matinee Against SC State

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team returns to Bartow Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 12, for a matinee contest against South Carolina State. Tip is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Blazers are coming off a 73-62 road win at Nicholls to improve their overall record to 7-2. The Bulldogs are 1-9 overall.
UAB made a season-high 13 3-pointers at Nicholls and poured in a season-best 31 third quarter points to pull away for the win. The Blazers were a perfect 11-of-11 from the floor in the third quarter, including 5-of-5 from downtown.
Mia Moore led three players in double figures with her fourth double-double of the season and finished the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds. A Player of the Year candidate in the American, Moore ranks top five in five statistical categories: Rebounds Per Game (1st – 9.7), Free Throw Percentage (3rd - .851), FG Percentage (4th - .504), 3-Point FG Percentage (4th - .474) and Points Per Game (5th – 18.1).
Denim DeShields is five points away from 500 in her career. In 40 career games, the true sophomore is averaging 12.4 points and 4.65 assists per game. DeShields is leading the American in assists per game this season (6.0).
Following the South Carolina State game, UAB heads to Philadelphia for the Hawks Classic in which the Blazers face Wagner on Dec. 20 and then either Saint Joseph's or New Hampshire on Dec. 21.
