BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball gears up for a road trip to Philadelphia, Penn. on November 10 and 11 to face their northernmost foe of the 2024 season: Temple. The Blazers, who split their meeting against the Charlotte 49ers, sit on a one-match win streak after a record breaking, triple-double tallying weekend.
Sophomore Kelsey Smith, who tallied three straight triple-doubles in three matches, was named to the AAC Honor Roll on Monday by the conference office. In addition to Smith's performance, The Blazers bested their prior single-match record of total attempts with 201, followed by a single-match record in digs with 102.
The Green and Gold enter the season on a high note, taking on a Temple team who have not met with the Blazers since a single match in 1991.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple enters the week on a four-match losing streak, last playing USF with a three-set and five-set loss to the Bulls. The Owls, who hold a record of 15-11 and 5-9 in the American, rank fourth in the AAC East. So far in the 2023 season, the Owls have taken on the likes of Penn State and Princeton.
The Owls are one of the top performing teams on the defensive, specifically in blocks. Temple ranks fourth in the conference in blocks, and holds their opponents to a hitting percentage of .177. Part of the reason for the team's performance on the defensive stems from middle blocker Chelci Banks. The Marietta, Ga. native leads the team in blocks with 100 and ranks top-ten in the AAC.
In addition to Banks, Taylor Davenport sits third in total blocks on the team, while being the team leader in kills with a total of 337 on the season. Davenport also ranks fifth in the conference, averaging 3.44 blocks per set and posting a season-high 24 against Dartmouth in addition to 10 digs. It would be one of two double-doubles of the season.
As a team, Temple ranks tenth in hitting percentage with .188 and average 15.61 points per set, ahead of the Blazers by two slots in these two categories. Both teams sit within close proximity with the Blazers outperforming in digs and sitting neck-and-neck in service aces.
