UAB Women’s Basketball Hosts Valpo on Saturday at Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM – Opening a four-game home stand, the UAB women's basketball team welcomes Valparaiso to Bartow Arena on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
The game against Valpo opens a busy week for the Blazers in which they will play four games in an 8-day span, all at home. Following Valpo, the Blazers host Jacksonville State on Monday, followed by Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday and Auburn on Sunday.
The Blazers enter the contest at 3-1 and are coming off a trip to the Great Alaska Shootout where they finished 1-1 overall.
Redshirt sophomore guard Mia Moore has had an excellent start to her Blazer career as the Mississippi State transfer is averaging team-bests 19.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Moore was named to the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team for averaging 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in UAB's two games, including her first career double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds vs. Eastern Kentucky.
Additionally, sophomore guard Denim DeShields is leading the American Athletic Conference and ranks 15th nationally with an average of 6.3 assists per game. Moore had a season-high nine assists against Alaska Anchorage and has had six or more assists in three of four games this season.
Valpo is in search of its first win of the season after losses to Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Southern Miss.
Saturday's contest is the second half of a home-and-home series between UAB and Valpo. UAB defeated the Beacons 83-81 last year in Indiana.
