Blazer Volleyball Hosts Charlotte for Homecoming Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball returns to Bartow Arena for their second-to-last meeting at home for the 2023 Season. The Blazers welcome the Charlotte 49ers for the specially organized night dedicated to alumnae and families in attendance for homecoming.
UAB and Charlotte have a longstanding history, playing each other since the Blazers' early years in the NCAA. The Green and Gold lead the all-time record with 21 wins to the 49ers' 14, with the last meeting being a straight-set sweep. The Green and Gold would hold Charlotte to 12 points in the home match.

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
UAB revisits a Charlotte team on an eight-match losing streak. Since the start of the 2023 season, Charlotte has taken on the likes of Colorado and NC State, with wins over Coastal Carolina and their sole conference wins over Memphis. Charlotte currently ranks sixth in the conference in digs, led by libero Sophie Whalen. Whalen tallied 338 digs as of Nov. 2, with a season-high 24 at Temple.
On the offensive, Lara Kretschmer leads the pack in kills with 193. Kretschmer ranks second in blocks and first in aces. The Berlin Native comes off a weekend where she went .465 in attacking versus North Texas and Tulane. She also tallied four service aces that weekend. In the last two meetings against UAB, the Blazers held Kretschmer under .300 in both meetings.
ALUMNI NIGHT
UAB Volleyball welcomes alumni for Alumni Night on Nov. 3 against Charlotte. The Blazers have a full slate of activities for alumni, family, and fans to enjoy just in time for homecoming to kick off the weekend.
Alumni will be given pre and post-match engagements, and honored during the Friday evening match and have an opportunity to receive discounted tickets to the Saturday football game versus the FAU Owls.
