Big Second Half Lifts UAB over Alaska Anchorage, 63-52

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The UAB women's basketball team outscored Alaska Anchorage by 12 in the second half en route to a 63-52 victory over the Seawolves to conclude action at the Great Alaska Shootout.
Denim DeShields stuffed the stat sheet in leading the Blazers (3-1) to victory. DeShields had six points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals in the win. Mia Moore was the team's leading scorer with 11, while Jade Weathersby (9) and Desiree Ware (8) made major contributions off the bench in the win.
The Blazers led 13-8 after the first quarter, but UAA outscored UAB 18-12 in the second quarter and led 26-25 at halftime.
However, UAB seized momentum early in the third and outscored UAA by seven in the quarter for a 43-37 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
With UAB leading by five early in the fourth (46-41), Molly Moffitt made a layup and Moore then stole the inbounds pass and found Maddie Walsh for an uncontested layup which extended the lead to nine and proved the be the critical point in the game. UAA would not get closer than six for the remainder of the contest.
The Blazers finished the Great Alaska Shootout at 1-1 and now returns to Birmingham to open a four-game home stand at Bartow Arena.
The first of those four games comes against Valparaiso on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 12 p.m.
