Women’s Basketball Heads Northwest for Great Alaska Shootout

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team plays its first games away from Bartow Arena this weekend, Nov. 18-19, at the Great Alaska Shootout. UAB opens the tournament against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. CT.
The winner of UAB and EKU will play the winner of No. 4 Utah and Alaska Anchorage on Sunday night at the Alaska Airlines Center.
UAB (2-0) heads into the tournament coming off an 81-56 victory against Western Carolina on Nov. 13. Mia Moore is averaging 22.5 points per game and is leading the American Athletic Conference in field goal percentage at 73.9 percent. Moore has made 17-of-23 from the floor and has scored 27 and 18 points in her first two games as a Blazer.
Tracey Bershers added a career high 20 points against WCU and made five 3-pointers in the victory. Additionally, Denim DeShields is leading the AAC with 6.5 assists per game (13 total).
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
EASTERN KENTUCKY
Eastern Kentucky (4-0) is coming off a 77-75 victory against Evansville on Nov. 15. The Colonels are breaking records this season, having their best start to a season in 11 years.
UTAH
No. 4 Utah (2-1) fell 84-77 to No. 21 Baylor in its last game out. The Utes were 27-5 last season and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2023.
ALASKA ANCHORAGE
Alaska Anchorage (2-1) heads into the tournament off a 78-50 win against Hawaii Hilo on Nov. 11. UAA had four players score in double figures against Hilo last time out.
